5 Tips for Making This Valentine’s Day Extra Special

Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and making plans can be difficult. Giving a gift and going to dinner can be romantic, but after a few years, it may become a bit predictable, especially for couples who have been together for a while. However, there are always ways to mix things up with creative Valentine’s gifts! Here are some great tips to making this Valentine’s Day extra special.

Do Something New Together – It’s time to try a wacky restaurant or go see a new comedy show you read about. This is your chance to step outside your comfort zone and create a new experience together apart from your normal Valentine’s ideas. Try rock climbing, go to a musical or concert or cook some weird or exotic food. Prepare an evening like you have never had together before. And whether it ends up being really fun or so bad you can’t help but laugh, it’s another great experience you shared together.

Go on a First Date – This romantic Valentine’s idea is perfect for couples who have been together for a really long time. Think back to when you went on your first date. Recreate the awkward, butterflies-in-your-stomach, puppy-dog crush you had when you first met your partner. Ask about friends and family and even flirt a bit! End the night by taking your loved one home, walking him or her to the door and having your first kiss all over again. This does take a bit of role-playing and can be a ton of fun, so really get into it!

Leave Some Love Notes – It may sound a little cheesy, but leaving a love note is fun and heart-warming and goes a long way. There’s something about reading a handwritten note that melts your heart, so get creative. Leave them all over the bathroom mirror, paste them on coffee mugs or maybe on the driver’s-side handle of the car. Write love poems or Valentine’s Day plans or simply draw some hearts. It’s a romantic Valentine’s gift that means a lot.

Have a Plan – This tip seems a little obvious, but we can sometimes forget it. Instead of asking your partner for suggestions or waiting around for him or her to have an idea, come up with one yourself. Plan it all out and announce where you’re both going. The causal “where do you want to eat?” or “well, what do you want to do?” can come off as uninvolved, which is not romantic at all. Be prepared with a confident plan. Your loved one will appreciate the passion and preparedness of it because it shows you have put a lot of thought into a really special evening.

Be Unexpected – This is the most important tip. This is where you can under-promise and over deliver. Give your partner an incredible evening even you thought you wouldn’t be able to pull off. There’s no need to wait until later to start either. Surprise him at work and pick him up early, send a beautiful arrangement of flowers right to her desk, or call him and tell him you can’t wait to see him. Don’t underestimate the little gestures, because she may not see them coming. And then end the evening with an amazing, intimate dinner at your favorite restaurant. Make the day about your loved one only.
