The 2015 wedding season is coming to a close and taking with it a year of amazing nuptials studded with traditional touches. Quite a few of the trends we've seen this past year are carrying over into 2016, and that's especially true where incorporating traditional wedding themes and decor is concerned. Of course, a return to tradition isn't all there is to be excited about in weddings in the new year. From color palettes to flowers to textiles, here are five of our favorite spring 2016 wedding trends.
Watercolor palettes dominate. We absolutely love what we've seen in terms of fall wedding colors for 2016. Everything from dresses to table decor to guest favors are showing up in cool, muted watercolor tones. The surprisingly versatile palette works with themes ranging from country casual to upscale romantic, and it isn't just for the decor either. Dresses for brides and bridesmaids alike are showing up in an array of soft hues that are more contemporary than the pastels of 2015.
Blues have become a force of their own. An almost denim blue that's a little more country than watercolor also dominates the wedding palette this spring. It's a great shade for invitations, favors and glassware. Of course, couples planning country weddings can use the shade in its most basic form by incorporating raw denim.
Bridal bouquets make big statements. One of the wedding flower trends for 2016 that we're most excited about is the revitalization of the bridal bouquet. Big, trailing bouquets that accentuate the bride's silhouette are in. Filled with glorious flowers and lush foliage, trailing bouquets offer a great way to add a touch of color. These lovely bouquets feature large-headed blooms including hydrangeas, peonies, delphiniums and garden roses and light foliage such as ivy and eucalyptus.
Simple, romantic flourishes are big. Lace, beads, ribbons and jewels are favored as accents on dresses as well as for decor. The emphasis here is on keeping it understated. Staying on trend means bringing these elements into the venue as accents to simpler backdrops. These romantic touches really stand out when juxtaposed against long, shared tables, another of the hottest wedding reception trends for 2016.
Organic textures complement traditional textiles. Silk and linen are always in when it comes to basic wedding textiles, but this year we're seeing a lot of more rugged organic textures too. Bamboo and natural cotton lead the trend, with feathers stepping in as flourishes in centerpieces and on tables. It's all about creating whimsy by bringing together natural and man-made materials.
There's no better way to combine the romantic and natural elements we're seeing for weddings in 2016 than through flowers. The right flowers draw the color palette together, ground tables and highlight the bride. Chez Bloom is proud to stand as the best of the wedding-savvy flower shops in Minneapolis, MN.
